Runs for charity — MNP gives back through the HarbourCats

Victoria Foundation the beneficiary of charitable program during 2018 season

Oct. 24, 2018

VICTORIA, B.C. – Victoria HarbourCats fans had extra incentive to cheer on the team this year thanks to a new fundraising partnership involving the baseball club and MNP.

Through the new “Score for the Community” program at HarbourCats home games this past season, the baseball club and MNP are proud to announce a donation of $1,620 to the Victoria Foundation. MNP donated $10 for every run scored this season by the HarbourCats during regular season West Coast League games at Wilson’s Group Stadium at RAP.

The initiative, announced part-way into the season, was unveiled at the grand opening of MNP’s new office in Victoria, after the firm merged with the Victoria-based accounting firm Hulko Cameron Wellburn LLP earlier this year.

“It was a pleasure to work with the MNP team and to come up with an idea to use our events to benefit the community, and the great work done by the Victoria Foundation,” said John Pollard, Marketing Director for the HarbourCats.

“Knowing each time we hit a home run, or scored a run on a ground ball up the middle, made the games even more fun with our average crowds of nearly 2,500 and total attendance of almost 80,000 in 2018. People get engaged with the promotions and giveaways at the park, and this is the one we capped our season with and are pleased to announce today.”

While the MNP name is still relatively new to Victoria, local Partner Steve Wellburn noted that Hulko Cameron Wellburn had served the local market for more than 35 years and the firm’s partners and employees have a strong desire to give back.

“Our team was very excited to partner with the HarbourCats in a way that rewards the team’s success while raising money to support important causes in our community at the same time,” said Wellburn.

“This was a true win-win partnership and a great way to celebrate our merger with MNP.”

“We also enjoyed the chance to bring out our entire team for a night at the ballpark. The HarbourCats new third-base party deck provided a great atmosphere, while our charity partnership made that much more meaningful each time the team scored a run.”
