Mississippi State pair sign with HarbourCats

VICTORIA, B.C. – For the first time in franchise history, the Victoria HarbourCats have signed two players from Mississippi State University. The Bulldogs will send infielders Harrison Bragg and Reed Smith to Victoria for the 2017 West Coast League season.

INF HARRISON BRAGG, Mississippi State University, (Junior), Lakewood, WA, 6-4/220

INF REED SMITH, Mississippi State University, (Freshman), Russellville, AL, 5-11/180

harrisonbragg2Harrison Bragg is entering his first year at Mississippi State as a junior after beginning his collegiate career playing two years at Tacoma Community College. A physical corner infielder with a powerful right-handed bat, Bragg hit .355 with six home runs and 44 RBIs, adding 14 doubles and three triples in 41 games during his sophomore year at Tacoma CC. He was named a 2016 NWAC West Region First Team All-Star.

reedsmithReed Smith is a prized shortstop recruit entering his freshman year at Mississippi State. Smith was rated the top shortstop in the 2016 class in the state of Alabama and had interest from several top NCAA Div. 1 programs before committing to Mississippi State.

Smith, who hit .404 with 63 RBIs and 37 doubles over his high school career, is described as a great defensive middle infielder. He was selected to play for the Mets Scout Team in 2015 and has consistently ranked among the top performers in many of the elite invitational events in the United States throughout his high school career.

Mississippi State is one of the premier programs in college baseball with nine appearances all-time in the College World Series, most recently in 2013 and have produced 52 major league players and 175 MLB draft picks. They finished the 2016 season ranked #11 in Division 1 baseball and were ranked as high as fourth midseason.
