High School — After three seasons at Iolani High School in Honolulu, Shimao transfered to Rancho Cucamonga for his senior season and hit .429 with five doubles, two triples, four home runs and 15 RBIs with three steals … also pitched in four games with no record and a 4.67 ERA and one save … originally committed to Hawai’i and USC before coaching changes at both schools made him decide to decommit and come to Cal Poly “because of the rich baseball culture and the coaches are some of the best in the country” … opened his senior season at Rancho Cucamonta under head coach Perry Johnson with a seven-game hitting streak, going 11-for-25 (.440), and finished the year with eight multiple-hit games, including a 3-for-4 contest with a triple, home run and five RBIs versuis Los Osos … earned a spot on the All-CIF-Southern Section Division II team as well as on the All-Inland Empire first team … hit a three-run home run against Paloma Valley in the second round of the CIF-Southern Section Division II playoffs … finished the year with an 18-12-1 overall record, third place in the Baseline League and a quarterfinal-round berth in the playoffs … played both baseball and football (quarterback) at Iolani … sophomore and junior baseball seasons were shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic … hit .500 as a freshman during a 13-7 season at Iolani .. played baseball in summer of 2022 for Alaska Goldpanners in Alaska Baseball League and hit .367 with seven doubles, three triples, a pair of home runs and 16 steals in 18 attempts … drove in 29 runs in 38 games.

Personal — Son of Mark and Lori Shimao, both Hawai’i graduates … one sister, Nikki … cousin J.R.
