Geric Construction steps to the plate for added safety

Netting improvements sponsored by Geric, with so much community assistance

February 13, 2020

For Immediate Release

VICTORIA, B.C. — In all of the housing projects Ed Geric does in the Victoria area, safety is the top priority. It’s no different for the safety of fans when the Victoria HarbourCats are hosting games at Wilson’s Group Stadium at Royal Athletic Park.

Geric Construction and the HarbourCats are excited to announce today that new sight-quality and safety components will be added to the historic stadium for the 2020 season, allowing a clearer view of games for the premium Grandstand seating, and keeping fans — especially families, and children — even safer at the ballpark.

A new transparent netting material will be used for the panel viewed from directly behind home plate — among the best seats in the house. In addition, netting along the home dugout side (first base/right field) will be extended higher and longer. Geric Construction, as part of a two-year agreement focusing on safety and sight lines, is sponsoring the work.

The coordinated projects will be completed in time for the first game, slated for May 30.

“We have worked with Ed and his team for many years now, and his desire is always to look for edges in making games more and more enjoyable,” said Jim Swanson, GM/Managing Partner of the HarbourCats. “Safety is important, and providing a comfortable environment adds to a day at the park. We thank Geric Construction for being a big part of helping us lead the West Coast League in attendance. The experience is key to that.”

Geric has helped the HarbourCats add drink holders, padded seating and other improvements in the past few years.

Geric’s sponsorship is important, so is the joint netting work being done by Grey River Netting in Campbell River and Netex in Delta. Local contractor Troy Birtwistle of TRB Construction (also an assistant coach), who has done so much of the improvement work at RAP since 2015, will install the posts and netting, while Emery Electric will again help with equipment to bring down the old backstop netting, then re-install. The work will also allow Pacific Audio Works to fine-tune sound system alignment in both areas.
