PORT ANGELES, Wash. — The Victoria HarbourCats (18-6/36-15) held the Port Angeles Lefties to just four hits for the second straight night, and sealed a series sweep with a 9-0 shutout victory Thursday evening at Civic Field.

Mitch Lines got the start for the HarbourCats, who clinched the series with a decisive 11-2 rout yesterday, and scattered just two hits over five innings of work. The righty from Lower Columbia also racked up a season high nine strikeouts, and never faced more than five batters in a single inning.

Port Angeles starter Jonny Chavez held Victoria scoreless through the first three frames, however, the potent HarbourCats offence that scored 26 runs in the first two games of the series exploded in the fourth.

Tanner Haney notched his second RBI of the series with a single that got Victoria on the the board, and one batter later Chavez uncorked a wild pitch that allowed Griffin Paxton to score from third and double the lead.

One inning later, Gus Wilson and Harrison Spohn had matching RBI doubles that extended Victoria’s lead to five. Wilson finished with two hits and two runs on the night, while Spohn collected two RBI and two hits in five plate appearances.

The HarbourCats added more insurance runs in the sixth, scoring twice in the frame highlighted by a Nick Plaia RBI single, and twice more in the seventh to make in a 9-0 game. Five separate HarbourCats had an RBI tonight, and the 35 total runs is the second most runs Victoria has scored in a three-game series this season—behind a 39-run outburst over three games against the Bend Elks from June 17-19.

After Lines exited to begin the sixth, Chase Stewart pitched two innings of one hit ball and Mikey Callia pitched a clean eighth only giving up one hit, too. Head Coach brought Spohn onto the mound in the ninth, and the infielder struck out the side to put an exclamation point on Victoria’s dominant series over Port Angeles.

The two teams will square off in the opener of a three-game series across the Strait of Juan de Fuca tomorrow evening, first pitch is scheduled for 6:35p.m. at Wilson’s Group Stadium.
