Victoria, BC ~ A bottom of the first leadoff home run by Grady Morgan brought a roaring crowd of 4, 345 to their feet while putting his team on the path to victory, as Victoria defeated the Redmond Dudes 10-2 on Monday night in non-league play at Wilson’s Group Stadium at Royal Athletic Park .
Shawn Loglisci was handed the ball once more for an exhibition game for the third time this year. Shawn was nothing short of brilliant as he finished with a complete game and just two earned runs allowed. The former 2005 Los Angeles Dodgers draft pick seems to have developed a rubber arm and has become a favorite around the park and in the clubhouse.
Tyler Pettit hit a two run home run to help add to the HarbourCats lead in the seventh inning while Hudson Shupe added four hits of his own to supplement his strong showings as of late. The incoming freshman to Seattle University has turned out to be a steady presence in the middle of the diamond and at the plate for the Cats.
It was another successful fireworks celebration in Victoria as the entire massive crowd stayed around, quite vocally, to watch the post game fireworks. It has been called the “Best Fireworks Show in Victoria” and it sure seemed that way Monday night.
Monday’s game was preceded by the annual HarbourCats players awards with Joseph Redfield taking home the Player of the Year, Andre Duplantier II being named Pitcher of the Year and Jesse Brown earning the Community Service Award. The HarbourCats were also presented with the Vancouver Island Cup for winning their series with the Nanaimo NightOwls this season.
