Kamloops, BC ~ A six run top of the third inning for the HarbourCats was not enough to propel them to victory as they lost their lead late in the game before losing on a walkoff in the bottom of the ninth for the second straight game to lose 9-8. This now moves Victoria to a below 500 winning percentage on the season (6-7).

The HarbourCats are making a habit of getting the bulk of their offense in one inning offensive bursts but this evening it was not enough to hold off the attack of the NorthPaws who were able to score six unanswered runs from the fourth inning on. This marks the second straight game in which Kamloops has come from behind to defeat the HarbourCtats.

Noah Takacs made the start on the mound for Victoria going four innings of eight hit and four earned run baseball while only striking out two and walking two. Harry Deliyannis came into the game for Addison Sells, who started the fifth inning and gave up two earned runs while getting just one out. Harry has been Victoria’s best pitcher this season which has seemed to catch everyone off guard as in all respect to Harry, he was not seen as a top of the line prospect when coming to Victoria this summer. He has silenced any nay sayers so far, as his 3.2 innings of no run baseball was the latest of his spectacular showings this summer. Harry has now just given up just two runs on 13 innings of work.

Colton Moore continued his hot stretch as of late at the plate. Playing in left field, Colton picked up another two hits in his four at bats while scoring twice and recording a run batted in. He has been Victoria’s hottest player by a long shot over the last few days. Hudson Shupe (commited to Seattle U) and Russel Young (Johnson County Community College) both had multi hit efforts as well for Victoria.

What’s Next?

Victoria will look to salvage a victory in the three game series against Kamloops tomorrow eveningduring the last game of the set. It has been an emotionally straining trip to the interior so far for the Cats and they will return home to play the Coquitlam Angels on June 17th. Coquitlam is a senior men’s baseball team made up of mostly former colege players that are looking to continue to play high level ball while working, meaning that these will be three exhibition games. Hopefully the HarbourCats players will be able to catch their breath and take things “easy” during this fun series and load up for some tough times down the stretch.
