The Victoria HarbourCats used a five-run bottom of the fifth to roll to victory in a special Father’s day game at Wilson’s Group Stadium at Royal Athletic Park. The crowd was rowdy and ready for baseball, as the sun finally decided to come out, making for a perfect day to celebrate fathers everywhere.

The HarbourCats jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on the power of a single off the bat of Josh Rolling. Rolling then proceeded to score after three straight wild pitches allowed him to cross home with the first run of the game.

The big inning of five runs for Victoria in the fifth, was led by Roberto Gonzalez’ two run single which would make it 5-0 at the time. He would end up scoring later in the inning, staking the HarbourCats to a lead that would prove to be too much for the Angels to recover from. The Cats would then add three more in the bottom of the seventh for good measure.

Veteran Victoria Maverick’s pitcher Sean Loglisci got the ball today on the mound for the HarbourCats in today’s exhibition, and was fabulous. He would end up going all nine innings for a complete game, five-hit, shut-out, perhaps the first such occurrence in HarbourCats history.  The complete game had the added bonus of giving regular HarbourCats pitchers a day off heading into a key divisional series with Wenatchee starting Tuesday.

Today the HarbourCats were able to get their starters some reps after spending the last two games taking a break since the series against Coquitlam is just an exhibition. It was a good opportunity to gain some momentum back and some confidence heading into June 21-23 when the Wenatchee AppleSox are in town for a three game set.
