HarbourCats add team chaplain, Faith Night with Glad Tidings Church

PRESS RELEASE

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – April 10, 2017

VICTORIA, B.C. – The Victoria HarbourCats are pleased to announce the creation of a new position within the organization as Park Jung has been hired as team chaplain.

Team chaplains are common throughout professional and collegiate sport, but the role is new ground for the HarbourCats and West Coast League. Jung will become the first chaplain in team and league history.

A long-time resident of Victoria, Park has a Masters of Art in Christian Studies and is completing his Certificate in Chaplaincy and Spiritual Care from ACTS Seminary of Trinity Western University in Vancouver, BC.

Jung has been involved ministry for more than 15 years, ranging from children’s and singles ministry at Glad Tidings Church in Victoria, to his work with Kairos International Prison Ministry.

Park currently serves on the music team at Victoria’s Glad Tidings Church where he has served since 1999.

The purpose of the team chaplain position is to be present to provide moral, psychological and spiritual care to members of the HarbourCats when desired. Jung will attend home games, lead chapel meetings for those who wish to partake, and will be available for one-on-one consultation.

“I look forward to the opportunity to come along side of our players and witness the growth of these young men’s character on and off the field over the course of the summer,” says Jung. “I thank God and the HarbourCats for this opportunity and I look forward to a great season.”

Jung has support from fellow sports chaplains in Victoria including Lukas Bonnett, Westshore Rebels chaplain and Glad Tidings youth pastor, as well as Victoria Royals chaplain Dave Steingard.
