Golden Tide Ready to Roll for first CCBC spring season

For Immediate Release

January 27, 2022

Victoria, BC – The newest addition to the historic Canadian College Baseball Conference (CCBC) resides on the southern tip of Vancouver Island and they begin their inaugural spring season in one month.

The Victoria Golden Tide features student-athletes from Camosun College and the University of Victoria, and plays out of Wilson’s Group Stadium at Royal Athletic Park, the downtown facility best known as the home park of the Victoria HarbourCats, who perennially lead the West Coast League in attendance.

Curtis Pelletier serves as the Head Coach and General Manager, while also serving as the GM of the HarbourCats. Coaches supporting Pelletier include Ethan Fox, Alex Hendra-Brown, Kyle Orr and Ryan Haines.

The Golden Tide, the eighth member of the CCBC, is an expansion team, a young program — and will be young between the lines, too. Players to watch include big right-handers Haldon Craig and Brady Wilson, lefty Jacob Popadynec, infielders Jordan Bond, Brendan Morrison, Brandon Green, and outfielders Daniel Sawchyn, and Tyler Burton.

“We are excited to join this league and give more players an opportunity to play at the collegiate level in Canada,” said Pelletier. “We have great post-secondary institutions here, and some of the best facilities in Canada. Everyone knows about our weather, and it’s been fun to see some of the rivalries start already in our first fall season, with the VIU Mariners an hour up the road. We will have to put in the work to be ready to compete with the best in the CCBC.”

The Tide begin the spring exhibition season with a road trip to UBC on February 26th and then come home for the spring home opening weekend on Saturday and Sunday March 5th and 6th, where they will face the BCPBL Langley Blaze and Victoria Eagles respectively. Additional exhibition games are scheduled every weekend at Wilson’s Group Stadium throughout the rest of March.

Formal CCBC League play begins the weekend of April 2-3 with the Tide playing a home-and-home series with the VIU Mariners. League play then continues through May 15th.

The full 2022 Golden Tide schedule can be found in the graphic attached here. All games on the schedule are double-headers, with the exception of single games on Friday night April 29 and Sunday afternoon May 1 (both vs. Okanagan College). This makes for a 50-game spring schedule overall, 32 of which will be played at home.

Tickets for all Golden Tide games will go on sale soon! Booster Club “season ticket” packages and streaming web broadcast packages for all spring games will also be available soon.
