HarbourCats look to clinch playoff berth with help from Forces Friday crowd
By Chris July 04, 2019 04:30pmWith one win over Bellingham this weekend, potentially on Friday night – Forces Friday – the HarbourCats will punch their ticket to the 2019 WCL playoffs.
VICTORIA, B.C. — The HarbourCats will have help from their canine friends with the VicPD’s K9 unit as they chase down a WCL playoff berth.
On Forces Friday, presented by Galaxy Motors, the HarbourCats and VicPD are pleased to announce that the K9 unit will do a special pre-game demonstration to get the festivities started. VicPD will also have their ERT armored vehicle on display. The service dogs will be making their way around the stands during the game, for people to meet them.
The pre-game demo is something people will not want to miss.
“This is a night we’ve been looking forward to — we’re proud to celebrate the people who keep our community safe, whether it be military, police, fire, EMT, or corrections officers,” said Jim Swanson, GM of the HarbourCats.
That’s just part of a weekend in which the HarbourCats are out to lock up the first half title in the North Division, and one win over the visiting Bellingham Bells will accomplish that.
Prince of Whales whale watching and other groups are a key part of the Friday game as well, and the anthems will be performed by the Navy Wives Choir.
On Saturday, it’s B.C. Transit Game Night with sunglasses given away to the first 300 fans — and then Elvis will be in the building, entertaining fans and doing the anthems. Wes-Tech Irrigation will have a large group as well.
Then, Sunday — a very popular day, with BARK IN THE PARK and Bosley’s on Yates, with famous Fairmont Empress Hotel dog Winston at the game. The 50-50 that game will go to support the Sarah Beckett Memorial Playground being built in Langford, and big groups that day from Victoria Airport Authority and Red Arrow Brewing, who make the popular Ballpark Blonde Lager that is available at the park, and nearly all beer stores.
“It’s an exciting weekend — for the baseball, and for all the things we have going on around the games,” said Swanson.
