PORT ANGELES, WA — Unlike the previous two games in the series that saw the Victoria HarbourCats jump out to early leads, the Port Angeles Lefties led from wire to wire in a 9-7 victory at Civic Field.

After Victoria soared to 4-0 and 5-0 leads in the first two games of the series, only to lose both games 9-6 and 8-6 respectively, Port Angeles got on the board first in tonights game.

The Lefties scored three times in the first, and five runs in the sixth for their first series sweep since taking three straight from Bend June 4-6.

Aidan Goicovich got the start for the HarbourCats, and would only last a single inning after yielding three runs in the home half of the fist.

Drew Minter got the scoring started with a leadoff homer, and Ronnie Rust tripled the Lefties lead two outs later with a RBI double.

The HarbourCats would get a couple runs back in the third and fourth innings to claw within three, courtesy of a RBI single from Joe Casey and RBI double from Blake Wagenseller, but Port Angeles would respond immediately.

The Lefties answered with a run in the fifth, before scoring five times in the sixth to put the game out of reach.

Port Angeles started the sixth with three straight singles, and Trevor Rosenburg capitalized with the fourth consecutive single in the inning to make it a 5-2 game.

The Lefties would walk two more times in the sixth, and Brady Heid hit a three-run home run, his second homer in as many days, to cap off the frame.

Tyler Oldenberg was locked in on the hill for Port Angeles, giving up only three earned runs and racking up a season high six strikeouts in 6 2/3 innings for his first victory on the year.

The southpaw out of Liberty University would give up a pair of RBI doubles to Dustin Miller and Rowdey Jordan before exiting with two outs in the sixth, but Thomas Ruwe collected the final out to halt any HarbourCat comeback attempt.

The HarbourCats would make things interesting with a rally in the ninth, as Ryan Ober made it a 9-6 game with a double. Victoria then loaded the bases with two outs, and Hunter Vansau pinch hitting would score a run with a walk to bring the HarbourCats within two.

Lefties closer Tyler Tan, however, would come on and record the final out to persevere the victory for Port Angeles.

With the loss, Victoria dropped to 6-9 on the Second Half and into a tie for fourth place with Port Angeles in the North division.

The HarbourCats will return home to open a three game set against the Walla Walla Sweets tomorrow night at Wilson’s Group Stadium at Royal Athletic Park. Victoria dropped two of three to the Sweets back in June, and will look for some home cooking in hopes of a late season postseason push.
