July 9, 2018 – The Victoria HarbourCats (0-3/14-16) will hope a little home cooking will be the remedy they need after dropping the series finale 10-2, and third straight game to the Corvallis Knights (3-0/17-11) at Goss Stadium.
Lethbridge, AB native, and Knights starting pitcher, Landon Bourassa was a dominant force on the mound, holding the HarbourCats to two hits in six innings pitched.
The right handed Canadian didn’t allow a hit until the top of the fifth, as Victoria was held off the scoresheet until there were two outs left in the ninth.
Meanwhile, the back to back WCL league champions, scored early and often off a slew of pitchers out of the HarbourCats bullpen.
Tyler Thomas got the start for Brain McRae’s crew, but would allow 3 early runs in the second inning off three hits.
In fact, no HarbourCat pitcher in the game would pitcher over two innings, and Thomas along with two other members out of the ‘pen would post the exact same line — 3 runs yielded off three hits.
Nathan Walker would be tagged for three runs in the fourth, and Corvallis continued the trend two innings later with two runs scored off Po-Jui Huang in the sixth.
Trailing 9-0 in the seventh and still struggling to find any success at the plate, the HarbourCats would look to have success against Dennis Boatman in relief of Bourassa.
Bourassa would finish with seven strikeouts in his fifth win of the season for the Knights, but the HarbourCats would find late success off Boatman to make the scoreline read a little friendlier.
Cruising until the ninth, Boatman would walk Matt Clayton to start the frame, and yield another walk to Harrison Spohn one out later to set Victoria in business.
Caleb Ricketts would prove to be the HarbourCats shining star on an otherwise forgettable night, plating the duo with a RBI single to make it a 10-2 game.
Manager Brooke Knight would pull his reliever after the Ricketts single in favour of Jordan McDaniel, who would get AJ Lewis to pop out and end the game in the next at-bat.
The loss dropped Victoria to 0-3 in the Second Half, and they will look to gain ground on the first place Kelowna Falcons in a home series tomorrow night against the Bend Elks (3-3/10-23).
Victoria took two of three from the Elks in Bend back in June, and will send Owen Sharts to the mound in hopes the righty out of the University of Nevada will halt the three game slide.
