HarbourCats stumble in opener at Knights

NEWS RELEASE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – June 26, 2017

VICTORIA, B.C. – The Victoria HarbourCats (10-13) continue to struggle against the Corvallis Knights (14-8), dropping the series opener in Corvallis on Monday night by a 9-1 final. The loss is Victoria’s third straight against the Knights in 2017.

Corvallis drew the early lead, scoring a run in the top of the first inning after loading the bases with nobody out against HarbourCats starting left-hander AJ Block (Washington St.).

Block was able to minimize the damage in the first inning to just the one run, and proceded to go pitch for pitch with Knights right-hander Nick Morales (San Jose St.) in a 1-0 game through five innings.

Po-Hao Huang (Taiwan) led off the top of the sixth inning with a single and later scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of second baseman Nick Moroney (UC Santa Barbara) to knot the game at one, but the tie was short-lived.

Corvallis erupted against the HarbourCats bullpen, scoring eight runs, five earned, in three innings against a trio of Victoria relievers to open up a 9-1 lead.

The HarbourCats were unable to capitalize on nine walks issued by five Corvallis pitchers, including five in four innings by Morales. Victoria finished with just five hits in the loss.

Game two of the three-game series is set for 6:40pm on Tuesday night at Goss Stadium in Corvallis.

Victoria’s next home series is Thursday, June 29 through Saturday, July 1 at Royal Athletic Park. Friday Night Fireworks presented by Wilson’s Transportation follows the conclusion of the middle game on Friday, June 30.

First pitch for the first two games is 6:35pm, with the series finale beginning at 1:05pm.
