VICTORIA, B.C. — Up the middle — the best baseball teams, proven over time, have their foundation built from the middle of the diamond, and the Victoria HarbourCats have taken more strides toward that with the exciting announcement today that two key players from the 2019 WCL finalist team will be back in double-blue this coming summer.

Head Coach Todd Haney is pleased to reveal that infielder Parker Bramlett, a West Coast League all-star in 2019, and strong defensive catcher Tyler Pettit will return for a second season at Wilson’s Group Stadium at RAP.

Bramlett, who set the HarbourCats record for steals with 23 and had four hits for the North Division in the WCL all-star game, is in his junior eligibility season at Angelo State. A top-of-the-order table-setter batting .304 with 30 runs scored in 35 games played.

Pettit, a junior who is now at Trinity University, hit .178 in 21 games and was exceptional as a receiver. He was hitting .293 through his first 14 games, and the hard-nosed competitor caught all 19 innings of a win in Walla Walla, a key part of that win despite him not getting a hit in that epic victory, throwing out runners and blocking balls in tight situations.

“These are two leaders, two veterans who were a big part of the winning culture that we had in place this last summer,” said Haney. “We won a lot of games thanks to Parker’s defence and his knack for getting on base when we needed it, helping us reach all the offensive records we set in 2019. Tyler was so dependable, and a guy the pitchers liked to see behind the plate. Tyler and Tyson Hays give us a strong catching foundation, that’s for sure. These two get us further ahead in our plans for the 2020 roster.”

The HarbourCats will be participating in the West Coast League fall meetings in Seattle, Sunday and Monday, with scheduling, video initiatives and other topics on the agenda for the summer collegiate league. Representing the HarbourCats will be Jim Swanson, Managing Partner, and Curtis Pelletier, Assistant Coach/Player Development.
