2019 NCAA Baseball Season Begins Today – HarbourCats Keen to Keep Tabs on Season Seven Recruits

February 15, 2019

Victoria, BC – PLAY BALL!

That is the call that will be heard all across the United States today, as the 2019 NCAA College Baseball season officially begins.  Rest assured, the Victoria HarbourCats will be watching with a vested interest.

There are more than 40 NCAA players, 25 of which have been announced, that the HarbourCats have been recruiting and that are on the radar for the 2019 season and now is the time to begin monitoring their progress, analyzing their play and fine-tuning the roster before West Coast League (WCL) play begins in Wenatchee on June 4th and with the HarbourCats home opener on June 7th against the Corvallis Knights.

“The HarbourCats are dedicated to picking the best group of athletes from North America for 2019,” said Director of Player Development and Assistant Coach Curtis Pelletier, “and this season we will have detailed systems in place that allow us to gather statistics and analytics on each player, allowing us to make more informed decisions on each each player and position, based on what each player is doing everyday during their season.”

In that regard, Pelletier’s office is now set up with a myriad of television monitors and laptops, white boards, lists of teams and players the HarbourCats are following and printouts of NCAA schedules and Pelletier, Director of Player Personnel Tyler Green and Managing Partner / GM Jim Swanson will be watching daily to see what happens.

The HarbourCats and Assistant Coach Curtis Pelletier will be closely monitoring the 2019 NCAA Baseball season to keep tabs on players for the upcoming year.

Incoming 2019 Head Coach Todd Haney, a five-year MLB veteran with the Cubs, Expos and Mets, will also be doing the same from his office in Texas and he has already been discussing the 2019 roster in detail with Pelletier, Swanson and HarbourCats coaching staff, with decisions on some players already being made.  “I am excited for the college baseball opening weekend!” said Haney.  “We have a number of players that we are looking at as potential impact players for the summer season and the new scouting and analysis systems we are putting in place will ensure we are putting the best players on the field for every game.”

The reigning NCAA Champion Oregon State Beavers, who included 2015 HarbourCat Michael Gretler and 2018 HarbourCats Ryan Ober and Joe Casey, open the season in Sunrise, Arizona for the Sanderson Ford College Baseball Classic, facing New Mexico at 3 p.m. today for first pitch. They’ll face off against Gonzaga and Minnesota also that weekend.

The 2019 College World Series begins June 15 and runs through June 25/26, and it’ll be back at TD Ameritrade Park in Omaha, Nebraska — marking the 70th straight year the city has hosted the event.
